  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from loheadrugger -- Love Zeba’s writing! : Zeba’s writing is very honest and open. I absolutely love her writing. Amazing book! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Regina -- Not what I was looking for : This definitely wasn't my favorite book this year. When I read the description it said it was going to talk about the culture of African American Women, but what I read was a lot of anger about how America defeats the African American women and her race. Everything Blay talks about, such as sexism, equality, body image seems only exclusive to African Americans, and any reference to white women having problems also with the above seem to be reduced to almost non-existing to white women or anyone else. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lori Alden Holuta -- You Need To Read This! : A collection of essays that pivot around the hashtag #carefreeblackgirl which was first used by Zeba Blay in 2013. As a white woman, I found the essays to be eye-opening, emotional and powerful. I have no wish to be blind to the challenges Black women face in their lives and careers, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to knock back some of my preconceived notions that were in error. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Arlena -- Good Read! : Title: Carefree Black Girls A Celebration of Black Women in Popular Culture ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
  • from Pirate Patty Reviews -- TOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE : Beautiful ( 5.0 out of 5 stars )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from julie kodama -- Food for thought : I am trying to read more nonfiction and I'm glad I picked this one! The essay format made it easy to take a break and think about what I learned. And yes, there was a lot of food for thought in this book, so many things I have had the privilege of not thinking about before. Thank you Zeba Blay for opening my eyes to a more critical way of looking at what the media feeds us, and exposing some of my own biases. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from AndreaRomance -- Informative : This was a heavier read than I expected, based on the title and description. While the book does celebrate Black women in pop culture, the framework of patriarchy and white supremacy looms large (which is fair). Be sure to read the content warnings in the front of the book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Pamela Devereux -- Thought provoking book : I believe this is a must read book for everyone. Having biracial daughters, there is so much in this book that I knew about. For all that I thought I knew, I am still a work in progress. Black women know so much in this book, that white women need to catch up on. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
